Generating a first draft
Describe what learners should practise on the Start step, attach your own material if you have it, and choose Generate the simulation. Everything is editable.
Open the builder at Simple Builder. The first step, Start, is headed Start from a description. It drafts the whole sim for you. It is optional. You can choose Write it myself and fill in every step by hand instead.
Generate a draft
- In What do you want learners to practise?, describe the conversation in two or three sentences. Who is the learner, who are they talking to, and what should go well or badly.
- Optionally, under Build it from your own material, choose Attach a document. PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, text and images are accepted, up to 10 MB each. Or paste text into Or paste source material.
- Choose Generate the simulation. It reads "Generating the simulation" while it works, which usually takes under a minute.
When it finishes you see "Simulation drafted" with an Undo option, and a note listing what was completed. Choose Review the steps to walk through the draft, or Go to Review and save if you are happy.
If you give it nothing, you see "Describe what you want learners to practise, or attach some source material, first."
What a draft fills
One press fills both builder views. The brief, the character's prompt and persona, the starting mood and inner state, the avatar and voice, the difficulty sliders, the assessment criteria, the stages of the conversation, quick facts and learner questions. Pasted text is used only to write the draft and is not saved on the sim. Attached documents are also added to the sim's documents when you save, so the character can cite them.
Generating again
Generate the simulation becomes Generate again once a draft exists. If you have edited anything since, a dialog headed Generate again? lists what will be replaced. Choose Keep what I have or Generate a new draft. The undo in the success message restores the previous version.
Messages
- "This scenario can't be generated as written." The description was refused by content moderation. Reword it.
- "The draft was cut short. Shorten the outline or pasted source and try again." The draft ran long twice.
- "We couldn't generate a draft just now. Your simulation is unchanged; try again in a moment." The service did not respond.
- "Simulation drafted (offline mode)." The AI service is not configured in this environment, so a template draft was used.
Save it
Nothing is saved until you choose Save to My Sims on the Review step. See Simple and Advanced builder for what blocks a save.
Generation needs a Creator Seat or an admin role. A Learner Pass does not include the builder.
