Microphone setup
Choose Enable microphone on the Before we begin screen and allow access when your browser asks. If the mic is blocked, fix it in your browser or type instead.
Every sim starts with a Before we begin screen. Under Microphone, choose Enable microphone and allow it when your browser asks. The box then shows Ready, an Input device list where you can pick a different microphone, and a level meter labelled Input level. Say a few words and watch the bars move. Then choose Start simulation.
Evolve Sim asks for the microphone only when you choose that button, never on page load.
During the run the microphone is open. Just speak. Your turn is sent about a second and a half after you stop talking, and you can talk over the character to interrupt. Mic on turns the microphone off and back on mid-run. To finish a thought without being cut off, choose Stop interruptions and then Speak, then tap here to send.
If access was denied
You see "We couldn't access your microphone. Check your browser's mic permission, or type your responses instead." Fix the permission with the steps for your browser, reload, and choose Try again.
Chrome
Click the icon at the left of the address bar, find Microphone and set it to Allow. Or open Settings, Privacy and security, Site settings, Microphone, and remove evolve-sim.com from the blocked list.
Edge
Click the lock icon at the left of the address bar, choose Permissions for this site, and set Microphone to Allow. Or open Settings, Cookies and site permissions, Microphone.
Safari on Mac
In the Safari menu choose Settings, then Websites, then Microphone, and set evolve-sim.com to Allow. Also check System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone, and make sure Safari is turned on.
Safari on iPhone and iPad
When Safari asks, tap Allow. If you tapped Don't Allow, open the Settings app, choose Safari, then Microphone, and set it to Allow or Ask. Also check Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone. Reload the page. Audio starts when you tap Start simulation, so keep the ringer switch on and the volume up.
Firefox
Click the permissions icon at the left of the address bar, remove the blocked Microphone entry, then reload. Or open Settings, Privacy and Security, Permissions, Microphone, Settings.
Text mode
Voice is optional in every sim. The text box with the placeholder Type your response is always on screen during a run. Type your answer and press Enter. If voice cannot start at all you see "Text mode always available". If your browser has no microphone support you see "This browser doesn't support microphone access. You can type your responses instead."
If a sim is embedded in another website and the microphone never works there, the host site has not allowed it for the embed. Tell whoever runs that site.
